A non-traditional, out of the box campaign is what got Barack Obama into the office. Contrary to previous presidential campaigns, the face to face contact was essential instead of the focus on mass media or mass communication. At the start of his campaign Obama was heavily criticized for his non-traditional approach, unaware the fact that he opened a can of enormous potential.
Even though the campaign was directed Obama constantly challenged his campaign team to tap into their creativity to capitalize one of the 72 opportunities every minute to move voters to action. Every heartbeat is an opportunity to move us into action as we are firstly moved in our heart before the ratio translates this movement into action.
So creativity and out of the box thinking accelerates our action as soon as we take our foot from the break of accepting the status quo. The visit today at the Johns Hopkins University confirmed that our hearts are mostly touched by those problems, issues and opportunities in our inner circle. Action is taken when we can relate to the situation or the circumstance. Often we see the bigger picture of the problem and ask ourselves what will be the impact of my ‘small’ scale action. It is exactly this question that keeps our foot on the break. We should accept that there is no one right way of doing it, but not doing anything is defiantly the wrong way. By making a difference in our inner circle we soon tap into the power of the six degrees of separation and it is at this crossing point that combining our efforts will lead to a collective tipping point for a sustainable world.
Single solution thinking does not resonate with Millennials and should not be forced upon them. Millennials treasure creativity, there is always a different way to look at things and taking action. It is creativity which fuels us and helps us hit our drive for change!!
