Policy Coherence on Aid, Trade & Investments

Recognizing the impact that a wide range of different policies have upon the pursuit of universal well-being, justice, and sustainability, the Worldconnectors would like to make a plea for greater policy coherence in development, particularly with regard to Aid, Trade, and Investment. The efforts of government, the private sector, private aid organisations and consumers must consistently target the eradication of poverty and the pursuit of sustainable development in all areas, for all people.

We need to work together to ensure coherence in the policies that we make – from the most local to the most global level – if we are to achieve our goal of a more just and sustainable world.  With that in mind, the Worldconnectors sat down in October 2007 to discuss and propose strategies for parliamentarians and policy makers, the corporate sector, civil society and civilians – all aimed at achieving greater policy coherence.

To read more about these proposals, see the full statement on Policy Coherence.

SID-Netherlands Lecture Series 'Economic Growth and the Common Good'

In cooperation with amongst others the Worldconnectors, SID-Netherlands organises the new Lecture Series Economic Growth and the Common Good from October 2008 to June 2009. The theme is strongly connected to the Worldconnectors' theme 'coherence' and will provide the opportunity to dive even deeper into the subject.

Where do we stand now? Can economic growth be (made) inclusive? Can capitalism (be made to) serve the common good? What roles are there for the market and for the state?
In the 2008-2009 SID Lecture Series these questions will be further explored. Current insights and sticky policy dilemmas will be identified, and their implications assessed for the policies of organisations and institutions in the field of international cooperation.

On thursday 30 October, the kick-off lecture will be given by Rick van der Ploeg, Professor of Economics, Oxford University.
