For the first time in history, the world’s nations adopted a universal and comprehensive agenda for sustainable development with goals to be realized. At the 70th United Nations General Assembly, the post-2015 development agenda, including 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, was adopted. The Sustainable Development Goals are also called the Global Goals. Each nation is encouraged to develop as soon as practicable… an ambitious national response to the overall implementation of the Global Goals.
Aim of the working group
This Worldconnectors working group was formed to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. During the Worldconnectors Round Table on June 24th 2013, the working group presented its plan for the Global Goals Charter. Now we, and 70+ signatories from business and civil society of the Global Goals Charter NL, are ready. Over the past year the Charter initiators consulted signatories and developed a vision outlining the case for multi-stakeholder action and showing that Charter signatories can mainly contribute to the realization of the Global Goals through providing innovative solutions based on knowledge and technology.
If governments, businesses and civil society members across the world join efforts, we can realize the Sustainable Development Goals. There is a lot organizations can do themselves and, at the same time, many challenges require partnerships. We believe a national initiative to coordinate our efforts and partnerships around Global Goals is crucial to provide the enabling environment for joint action. Therefore, the working group will focus on the following points in 2016:
- Enable Global Goals Solution Partnerships
- Coordinate societal contributions to Global Goals
- Knowledge sharing
- Communication
