Joris Voorhoeve is professor of International Organizations at Leiden University, lector in International Peace, Law & Security at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, member of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs  (AIV) and (honorary) chairman of the Amartya Sen Foundation for Research of International Cooperation. Since October 2013 he fulfills the position of chairman of the Supervisory Board of Oxfam International.

Professional background
Mr. Voorhoeve is a former Director of Institute of Internatioanl Relations Clingendael and former Minister of Defense in the Netherlands (1994-1998). Between 2007 and 2013, he was also chairman of the Supervisory Board of Oxfam Novib in the Netherlands.

His personal motto
My first priority is to strengthen the UN capacity to maintain the peace and increase the contributions from member states for peace operations.
My other priority is to improve reproductive and sexual health and rights through `family planning` and related activities, as this would prevent much avoidable suffering in the world from disease, hunger, poverty and oppression.
