Lisette Mattaar is director of Humanity House in The Hague. Humanity House makes humanitarian subjects understandable and discussable. In Humanity House one experiences how it feels to live in a region plagued by conflict or natural disasters. Besides a museum, Humanity House is also a platform where lectures, debates, workshops, exhibitions and film screenings are held. It lets children and youth experience the life in a refugee camp through an educational program.

Professional background
Lisette studied business administration. After working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lisette worked as an advisor at  consultancy organisationAndersson Elffers Felix. Especially the topics of culture, refugees and asylum took her interest. After several years as advisor, Lisette felt the need to achieve something concrete. At RED Concepts, she worked for the development of inner-city regions. From there, she was asked by het Nederlandse Rode Kruis to set up the Humanity House in the city of peace and security. She’s been the director since this establishment in 2009.
